La Décheteque, optimizing resources and second-hand materials
Published on September 9, 2025
La Décheteque is a unique initiative in Mauritius: a living “waste library” designed to turn discarded materials into opportunities for reuse and new resources. Hosted free of charge on our Mauritian servers as part of our support program, the platform highlights materials that are often overlooked, with the aim of bringing them back into circulation and fostering a circular economy.
A Waste Mapping System to Create Value
The idea behind La Décheteque is simple yet highly impactful: to identify and classify locally available waste so that everyone—craftspeople, associations, businesses, and individuals—can reuse it. Wood, plastics, metals, textiles… all these materials, instead of ending up in landfills, can be given a second life through creative, social, or economic projects.

Innovating from What We Throw Away
This initiative goes beyond simple waste management. It opens up new perspectives: how can an environmental challenge be turned into a raw material for innovation? How can we connect actors who would never otherwise collaborate?
La Décheteque provides a concrete answer by making information accessible and fostering local synergies.
