Lighten Your Website and Images with the Magic of WebP

Published on April 8, 2026

Today, we often hear about eco-design and the importance of reducing the environmental impact of your web pages—and rightly so. However, this term suggests that such considerations can only be addressed during the design phase of your website. That’s a misconception!

Here’s a simple tip to significantly reduce the weight and loading time of media on your existing websites: WebP.

Developed by our friends at Google, WebP is a lighter, more efficient image format that reduces file sizes without compromising visual quality. We are currently testing it with some of our clients whose websites have relatively poor scores on https://www.ecoindex.fr/—with some pages reaching up to 3 or even 4 MB, resulting in extremely long loading times. By implementing WebP solutions, we are sometimes seeing image sizes reduced by up to ten times!

The image in this article, for example, weighs 395 KB as an optimized JPG and… just 54 KB in WebP!

Many tools and plugins are available to help you convert your images to the WebP format with minimal effort. Don’t hesitate to reach out to our team for expert advice or to work hand in hand with your agency or developer.

There are also other ways to reduce the weight of your pages. We can, for instance, advise you on the relevance of certain elements or on using alternative technologies for your animated media (videos, animated SVGs, etc.).

Let’s talk about it!
